The first session that you attend with us will be an assessment session. You will have an opportunity to ask us any questions you wish and we will ask you questions about the issues that bring you to counselling at this time. We do this to gain a clear picture of your difficulties and to make a decision about whether we feel able to help you. You also have opportunity to decide if you feel comfortable and want to register as a client with us.
Following the assessment session, if accepted for therapy, you will be offered counselling sessions with a qualified counsellor as soon as possible. In the event of there being a waiting list, you will be given an indication of how long this is likely to be.
Sessions will normally be :
50 minutes long
Once a week
with the same counsellor
in the same room
arranged on a mutually convenient day and time
The number of sessions you will need depends on various factors, so we will discuss this with you in the initial assessment appointment. For some people 4-6 sessions are enough, whilst for others it may be considerably more. The average number of sessions people choose to have is about 10.
If you have any questions or worries about the counsellling sessions, you are welcome to call us to discuss them. It's completely normal to be apprehensive the first time you come.
Please note that part of the purpose of the assessment session is for us to determine whether we think we can be helpful to you.
We reserve the right to refuse to accept you as a client, even if you disagree with this decision.
If this should be the case, we will do our best to refer you another person or organisation that we feel may be more suited to your needs.
